Do players need an official handicap?
No, competitors are NOT required to have a handicap or be a member of a golf club in order to compete. Wee Wonders is open to everyone, from beginners to experienced players.
What are the exact age categories?
For Boys, the categories are: 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12. For Girls, the categories are: 5-8, 9-10, and 11-12.
How is the age category determined?
Eligibility by age is determined by the entrant's age on 1st September in the competition year.
Can parents caddie or carry the bag?
Only for 5-6 year olds is a parent or nominated adult permitted to assist with pushing a trolley, carrying a bag, teeing up, and tending flags. For all other older age categories, assistance is not allowed, and players must manage their own equipment.
When will we receive our tee times?
Starting tee times will be available 4 to 5 days before the event. They will be published on the Wee Wonders event portal and sent directly to competitors via email.
Is there a dress code for the events?
Yes, players must comply with the standard golf dress code of the specific host venue. Please check the host club's website in advance to ensure your junior golfer is dressed appropriately.
Can family and friends come and watch as spectators?
For safety reasons, general spectators are advised not to attempt accessing the course. The designated parent or nominated adult supervisor must accompany the player.
How much does it cost to enter?
Entry for Regional Qualifiers is £9. If your junior advances, the Regional Final is £15. The Grand Final ranges from £30 to £75 depending on the age group and host course.
Are late entries accepted on the day?
No, late entries are not allowed. All registrations and payments must be made by the closing date, which is exactly one week before the Qualifying Competition.
What is the refund or withdrawal policy?
If you need to withdraw from an event, please give us as much advance notice as possible. Please note that entry fees are non-refundable.
How long are the holes? What are the yardages?
Our tees are perfectly scaled for each age group! Average 9-hole yardages range from roughly 1,000 yards for the 5-8 year olds up to 2,250 yards for the 11-12 year olds.
How do players qualify for the Regional Final?
The top 3 placed players from each age category at a Regional Qualifier will automatically earn an invitation to advance to the Regional Final.
What if a player who already qualified wins another event?
If the first-placed player at an event has already qualified from a previous event, we will inform and pass the qualification spot down to the next best-placed player in that event.
How do players qualify for the Grand Final?
The top 2 players from each age category at the Regional Finals advance to the Grand Final. Additionally, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers from the previous year's Grand Final are exempt and automatically qualify.
What is the maximum score on a hole?
To ensure a good pace of play, no more than 10 strokes in total may be taken at any hole (which includes a maximum of 4 putts). If a player reaches 10 strokes, they must pick up their ball and move to the next hole.
What happens if a player is stuck in a bunker?
After three failed attempts to play out of a bunker, a competitor may throw his or her ball out nearer the hole. There is no penalty for this, but the three failed strokes will count towards their score.
Do air shots count?
Yes, air shots do count towards a competitor's score.
Are distance measuring devices (Rangefinders) allowed?
Yes, distance measuring devices such as rangefinders and GPS watches are allowed at both the Regional Qualifiers and the Grand Final.
Can we use a golf buggy?
No, players and supervisors must walk at all times unless specifically permitted by the Committee for medical reasons prior to the event.
What happens if there is a tied score?
If there is a tie, we use a countback system (better inward half). We check the best score over the last 9 holes, then 6 holes, then 3 holes, and finally the last hole. If still tied, a sudden-death playoff starting from the 1st hole will decide the winner.
What happens if we have a rules dispute on the course?
Queries or issues must be raised with an on-course marshal or the host venue on the day, and resolved before a scorecard has been signed. Disputes cannot be raised after the event has concluded.
