Introduction

From Local Fun to Regional Showdown
The Regional Finals are the next phase, where qualifiers from the local events face off at the regional level. These are slightly more competitive one-day tournaments, but still very much junior-friendly and celebratory.
Who's Invited?
Each Regional Final typically brings together the top 3 finishers (per age group) from several local qualifiers in that region.
What Happens On The Day?
Championship feel, kid-friendly length. Each finalist plays an 18-hole stroke-play total (9 holes for age 5-6 & 7-8 categories) from age-appropriate tees. Parents walk as scorers, marshals keep things moving, and the day flows: check-in ✔ warm-up ✔ tee-off ✔ lunch ✔ awards.

Top Championship Venues

Regional Finals are hosted at prestigious courses in each region, giving young golfers a thrill of playing “championship style” venues.

Kid-Sized Stroke-Play Format

The format remains stroke-play competition, generally over 9 holes (with the same 10-stroke-per-hole limit) to keep it manageable for kids. All the Wee Wonders rules of play still apply (so kids and parents will be familiar with the format from qualifiers).

Formal Scoring & Live Leaderboards

Scorecards are collected and verified more formally, and leaderboards by category are tracked, adding a bit of competitive excitement.

Finish Top 2 to Reach the Grand Final

The stakes at a Regional Final are higher: only the top 2 in each age/gender category will advance to the Grand Final. That means if, say, 10 boys aged 7–8 are competing (all winners/runner-ups from local qualifiers), only the first and second place will progress.

Competitive Spirit, Supportive Atmosphere

It’s competitive but still supportive – you’ll often see players congratulating each other after the round. Even if a child doesn’t make top 2, reaching the Regional Final itself is a mark of excellence.

Mini golf setup with colorful putters, a cup, and a flag on green turf. Ideal for casual sports and recreation themes.

Medals, Goodies & Returning-Player Exemptions

All finalists are typically recognised with medals or goodie bags. Additionally, exemptions are in place to keep talented kids progressing: if a player placed 4th–6th in the previous year’s Grand Final, they get to skip straight to a Regional Final the next year (bypassing qualifiers). This ensures returning players who excelled nationally still get a shot, even if they have a bad day at a qualifier.

Podium Ceremony & Medals

Every Regional Final ends with an award ceremony. The top 3 in each category are called up to applause – third place often gets a bronze medal, second place a silver, and first place a gold medal or trophy.

A Truly Memorable Day

Photographs are taken with all the young winners. These moments are often shared on social media by the organisers and proud parents (local press sometimes covers them too). For instance, a Scottish golf blog celebrated a local boy’s performance at St Andrews after he qualified through a regional. The key prize, of course, is qualification to the Grand Final for the top-2.
